It was a great day for Brandeis cross country on Saturday, September 17th as the Judges competed in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. Hosted by the meet’s namesake college in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts, Brandeis fielded varsity teams on both the men’s and women’s side; while also adding multiple runners into the sub-varsity races:

In the Women’s 5k Varsity race, the Judges took home 7th place (4th among D3 Teams) against a deep field of 38 teams!

  • Bridget Pickard (Jr), came home in 18:38 for 20th place in a field of 284 runners. That is an improvement of 42 seconds over last year

  • Katriona Briggs (Fr) and Juliette Intrieri (So) finished just behind in 21st and 22nd place. Juliette improved 28 seconds from last year

Over in the Men’s 5 mile Varsity race, the Judges battled to a 17th place finish (10th among D3 Teams) in a field of 35 teams:

  • Matthew Driben (Sr) started the scoring in 36th for the Judges, finishing in 25:48

  • Willem Goff (So) was not far behind in 55th place (26:19)

  • Lucas Dia (So), Brandeis’ fourth man, improved 31 seconds to 27:13 this year

The Sub-Varsity races on both sides also featured some stand out performances!

  • Ella Warkentine (Fr) battled to a 2nd place finish on the women’s side, posting an impressive 19:24 for the 5k

Overall, the Judges are off to a fast start this fall. Two wins at Wellesley to start the season and a strong showing at UMass Dartmouth set the teams up for some exciting races in the coming weeks. Their next battle will come on October 1st, when the Judges make the trip up to New Hampshire for the Keene State Invitational.
